Mass balance in AROLINK®
With mass balance in AROLINK®, you can document that all raw materials and any packaging entered into production match exactly what leaves the factory. The feature is based on weighing at both warehouses and processes, so you can follow the mass step by step through the entire production flow from receipt to finished product.
Full control over flow
Follow raw materials or packaging from the first weigh-in to the last weigh-out and see what finished and intermediate products they end up in.
Complies with standards
Supports BRC, IFS, ISO 22000 and other standards that require traceability and quantity control.
Reveal losses and deviations
Differences between weigh-ins and weigh-outs are made clear so you can quickly locate losses and waste.
Audit-ready documentation
Documentation for authorities and customers can be retrieved in seconds
Data is collected automatically
AROLINK® collects data directly from the entire factory without manual calculations or comparisons.
Real-time decision making
Up-to-date insights into yield, waste and process flow give you a solid foundation for optimization.
How mass balance works in practice
AROLINK® registers weigh-ins when raw materials are received into stock and weigh-outs when they leave the warehouse for a process. The same can be repeated for each process – input is weighed in, output is weighed out – and these records follow the product all the way through the production flow. The number of weighings determines the level of detail and is determined by the needs of the factory.
The function makes it possible to trace a finished product back to the raw materials and suppliers used in it or, conversely, to follow a raw material back to the products it is used in.
AROLINK® automatically calculates the balance between all inputs and outputs and generates a report showing how the quantities are distributed between processes, stocks and finished products. The report is ready for audit and highlights any deviations or losses.
Document packaging with mass balance function
AROLINK®‘s mass balance function can be used not only for raw materials. It can also be used to document packaging consumption throughout the production flow. When packaging is registered as a product type in AROLINK®, it can be tracked in the same way as a raw material:
- Inbound weighing: Registers the amount of packaging entering the warehouse.
- Process consumption weighing: Detects exactly where and when packaging is used in the packaging process.
- Link to finished product: Shows which products a specific packaging delivery has been used for.
This feature makes it possible to document packaging consumption for entire deliveries, specific orders or individual products. It can support both internal optimization goals, customer requirements for documentation and company work with climate accounts or regulatory reporting.
AROLINK® supports
Danish Packaging Register (DER)
-
Companies must report the weight of packaging they put on the market, broken down by material (plastic, paper, metal, etc.).
-
AROLINK® can provide precise figures per delivery or product group that can be used directly for reporting.
EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD)
-
Requirements for reporting packaging volumes and meeting recycling targets.
-
Mass balance can document how much packaging has been used and how it is distributed by order.
Customer-specific documentation requirements
-
Many retail chains now require detailed packaging data, such as percentage of recycled material or reduction of plastic consumption.
-
AROLINK® can provide this documentation quickly because data is already recorded in production.
ESG reporting
-
Several standards (e.g. CSRD) require documentation of material consumption and waste.
-
Packaging data from mass balance can be directly included in CO₂ and resource consumption calculations.
