AROLINK® and producer responsibility for packaging
Extended producer responsibility legislation for packaging at a glance
When you put packaging on the market in Denmark, you are responsible for it. From October 2025, all producers must report packaging volumes broken down by material, household/commercial, disposable/reusable and traffic light classification. Documentation must be kept for auditing and contributions are paid according to actual quantities and design.
Four benefits of packaging data in AROLINK®
Complete overview
AROLINK® knows the total data of the packaging when shipping, even when many components are included (e.g. glass, lid, label and foil).
Deviations and alternatives
AROLINK® allows super users to define approved alternatives. If a non-valid alternative is used, the system detects the error in real-time and marks the deviation with full documentation.
Mass balance of the packaging
Packaging is tracked from receipt to production, warehouses and shipping. The factory can choose the processes by which waste is recorded, so both market and internal waste is documented.
Documentation and master data
Data follows the packaging through the entire flow. This means that audits and reporting can be done quickly and without manual intervention.
How packaging data collection works in practice
1. Goods receipt
AROLINK® retrieves master data such as traffic light classification, segment, material and disposable or reusable typically from ERP and links them to item number and possibly supplier.
At goods receipt, this information is automatically displayed. The number, lot or batch and measured weight are also recorded here, while certificates are validated so the documentation follows the packaging all the way to shipping. The operator confirms receipt and can add defects.
2. production
Packaging is linked to batch and production order. AROLINK® calculates mass balance and shows how much packaging has been purchased, used, wasted and put on the market.
The superuser can set up valid packaging alternatives per item or process. If an unauthorized packaging is scanned for production, AROLINK® will notify and can block the registration or quarantine it.
3. Shipping
When the goods are shipped, the packaging is allocated to household or business based on customer type (e.g. retail/household or B2B/business).
AROLINK® knows the total packaging data for each shipment, even if there are many components such as glass, lid, label and foil.
4. reporting
AROLINK® generates report-ready reports in kg per material and packaging component, broken down by household/commercial, disposable/reusable and traffic lights.
In addition, the factory can create reports with e.g. packaging waste in production and mass balance.
Documentation of contributions
Green gives lower contribution
Red gives higher contributions
AROLINK® receives the traffic light classification as master data from the supplier and provides an overview of how much red, yellow and green packaging enters and leaves the factory.
If a package is actually green but the documentation is missing, it is treated as red in the contribution (without valid documentation → red tariff). If a green packaging cannot be properly documented, it counts as red in the contribution, and here AROLINK® helps to gather and secure the documentation. The insights can be used to find the most expensive components, document results and for reporting to the collective scheme.
Why choose AROLINK®?
Use packaging data for more than reporting. AROLINK® is the strategic choice, not another stand-alone system.
Data is recorded once and reused across production and reporting: reporting, shrinkage overview, documentation, operations and decision support.
AROLINK® can react to the use of invalid packaging, alert on deviations and work closely with ERP to avoid double registrations.
- Reporting report for collective scheme.
- Waste report of packaging discarded internally.
- Red/yellow/green distribution analysis.
